Joel Goldberg shows how it is done:
The concept sounds simple, but the logistics are daunting. Every Gold medal winner earns a spot in its class’s sweepstakes. Each judge tastes each wine, and votes for Best in Class. The top vote-getter wins.

Thinking that's not all, @steveplunkett adds:
Also Available in: List Price: Our Price:Kindle Edition (Kindle Book) $9.99Gary Vaynerchuk has captured attention with his pioneering, multi-faceted approach to personal branding and business. After primarily utilizing traditional advertising techniques to build his family's local wine business into a national industry leader, Gary rapidly leveraged social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook to promote Wine Library TV, his video blog about wine. As his viewership swelled to over 80,000 a day, and the wine business grew to over $60 million a year, he began making national TV appearances including the "Today Show", "Late Night With Conan O'Brien", and "Ellen", consulting for Fortune 100 companies, and giving keynote speeches around the world. Gary's dual identity as both business guru and wine guy has made him the 'Social Media Sommelier'.

For this reason, Marisa DVari says:
When asked how wines get on his list, Moosbrugger explains that typically distributors make appointments with him to showcase their wines. To narrow the selection to his needs, Moosbrugger typically tells them what specifically he is looking for. As an example, Moosbrugger explains that a distributor made an appointment with him to show him a California Pinor Noir, and ended up sneaking in another wine that Moosbrugger had not requested. This wine was Chateau du Campuget Prestige Viognier from the Costieries De Nimes. I found it was perfect to sell by the glass, recalled Moosbrugger, because it fills a gap in the white wines we presently offer.

But Sommelier Stephane Peltier says that's not all:

Jess Harter intervenes and adds:
A little awkward perhaps. Fortunately, this was in September 2007 and …“The iPhone had just come out,” Pierce says. “I’d heard about ‘applications,’ but I had no idea what they were. As soon as I saw one, I knew I could put my idea into that format.”

Joel Goldberg does not seem to agree with this. In his own words:

Joel Goldberg sees it this way:
First thoughts: the much-hyped 2007 vintage proves to be as strong as anticipated. That unusually warm and ripe year gave birth to 11 of the 13 Rieslings we tasted; three of them got Gold medals, though again no Double Gold. Overall, 11 out of 13 wines medaled. That’s not surprising; Riesling is one of Michigan’s stronger grapes.

I heard lunch at St. Supery was amazing, that new tech guru Rick Bakas let them know it would be worth it to go all out for the wine bloggers. At Chandon, the sandwiches were fine, but many of us gazed longingly at the lovely green salad prepared for one of our party allergic to breads . There was plenty of sparkling wine and it went down easy under the hot sun, and most of us said yes to a second glass to take into the winery. Their new rose was a hit and all gone before I got a chance to taste it as I started with the blanc de pinot.

In addition to this, Joel Goldberg states:
But in the backroom, pressure is building. Staff and volunteers must quickly identify all Gold medal winners and print tasting sheets listing them for the judges to use, locate the extra bottles of each reserved for this purpose, pour samples for each judge, and distribute them to the tables.

But Bret Thorn has a different opinion:
Steve s a manager and sommelier at Maloney & Porcelli, and he sort of continued to manage and be sommelier during dinner. Waiters came by to consult with him about wines, and of course he kept surveying the place during the course of the meal, because you can t turn that kind of thing off.

We each taste our 17 wines, and we’re ready to vote. No discussion, no hair-splitting over medals.Judges with more than one top pick can cast multiple votes, but the list stratifies quickly; over half the wines receive three or fewer votes. The Dry White sweepstakes takes a nerve-wracking turn after judges vote a bumper crop of 17 Gold medals, all but three from 2007. That means 408 glasses need to be poured and labeled, and 17 delivered to each of the 24 judges.

Joel Goldberg comes with the facts:
Quiet descends on the room as 24 judges start to swirl, sniff and sip. An opaque cup resides on the right, to receive our oral deposits after each taste; spitting is mandatory if we hope to survive the day. Most of us take notes that we can match to unmasked wines later in the day.

Sommelier sees it this way:
And last but not the least, there s Barbera, which also draws its origins from Italy. For those who like to eat to a beat, all of the festivities will be accompanied by the swinging sounds of live bands.

Despite the previous arguments, Bull E. Vard has many reasons to think otherwise:
*My favorite sommelier experience happened at Pierpont s about 5 years ago. The sommelier was trying to do recommendations for a table of older people that were not very wine savvy (to be kind). He had them try a merlot, something real accessible just so he could get a gauge of what they enjoyed. None of them liked it and he asked what they ve had before that they enjoyed. One of the older ladies hemmed and hawed and asked her husband something to the effect of what was that wine we had that time, white something? The husband didn t know and the sommelier asked white zinfandel? The lady said Yes, that s it, it was so nice, I think it was Sutter Home . I thought then (when I wasn t that much more wine savvy than the people at that table) that sometimes it must really suck to be a sommelier.

Pawlenty’s new role affords him several potential advantages as he looks ahead to 2012.First, with 39 governors races up between now and next November, Pawlenty will have a chance (and a reason) to build relationships with a slew of candidates who could be helpful to him if they are elected in 2009 and 2010.

Having that in mind, Joel Goldberg wonders:
Setting up the battlefield. Vintage variation tells the story here. Unlike 2007’s ripeness, 2006 was a “difficult” year for Michigan reds. (That’s winespeak for “The weather really sucked.”) A cool summer and early fall kept most red grapes from full maturity. The result? Mostly light-colored wines with low fruit concentration, high acidity and lean, unripe flavors.

But art predator has a different opinion:
Where another wine tasting waited this time Portuguese wines! And as much as I love port, that s not what this tasting was about. I will try to add another post on this tasting later, also.

Neil Pendock thinks about it:
Wayne lays hands on Dujac And what food: a platter of cold cuts, Giorgio Nava’s signature lamb ravioli followed by bistecca fiorentina and rounded off with a selection of local cheeses. Wayne confided that 80% of his private client sales are to Jozi jollers while when it comes to the restaurant trade, that ratio is reversed. He also confirmed that there are no sommeliers left in Jozi, the last one from Auberge Michel now sommeiling at the Oyster Box in Umhlanga.

The concluding chapters cover some more fun stuff, including pairing menus from some top American restaurants and then a Best on the Best, where some of the beverage experts provide their list of dessert island wines. I think of it as the Mr. Roarke wish list.

For this reason, Franki Weddington says:

Sonoma Valley Sun is not really sure about that:
If you agree with the judges, red is the new summer white. Of the top 14 wines, 10 were reds. Kunde Family Estate placed three wines in the top three categories; Haywood was next with two.

Her biography is one of a highly accomplished woman, and allows you to glimpse a complete career one that rich with experience, and demonstrates how anyone finally gets to the top though a lot of hard work.

Jo Diaz comes with a new idea:
[Q]  What’s your favorite food and wine pairing ?[A]  As the wine columnist for Chef magazine, I pair all the “iron chef” recipes with wine every month. I often try to cook some of these out- of- this- world recipes, so it’s a bit difficult to pinpoint ONE pairing. If I had to I’d pick Breast of Squab with Squab Liver Raviolilinis and Morels paired with Domaine Taupenot-Merme Premier Cru Les Pruliers,

Jo Diaz also takes into account the following fact:
Marlene is also a wine writer, with the following publications: Chef magazine Sommelier Journal Cult Wines for Tough Times The Tasting Panel Riviera/Modern Luxury International Sommelier

In response, Tracy Tesmer claims:

Jonathan was a natural in front of the camera. Although I won t reveal at this point what the photoshoot was for, I can promise more photos to come.

Still not being convinced, Bull E. Vard replies:
Stella s lobster bouillabaisse was astoundingly good. It was filled with mussels, shrimp, white fish, scallops and, of course, lobster tail in a tomato-chardonnay broth. If I were a fish this is how I d want to go out. I want to go back to Pierpont s just so I can have more than the one bite of this that I got that night. If they d let me, I d like to climb into the pot they make it in and bathe in it. I don t know when the next time we ll make it to Pierpont s for dinner, but I have a new favorite dish there that I need to experience a full serving of.

Beyond that, he says, there was a concerted effort to base recommendations on the expertise of real-life experts. It was important for me to get across that we were not building a sentient, thinking machine. This is not the Terminator, he says. This is basically cracking open the heads of the finest food and wine critics that we could find and basically scooping their brains out and putting them into a database.
